I have lived on the Cornish coast since I was a child, and, although early to pencil and charcoal, discovered my need to express myself in paint during my teens.

Artist resident at Heligan for over twenty years, and still close by, I have had unlimited resource for my landscapes and agricultural works, whilst also never far from the coast, and the seascapes it inspires.



While capturing the essence of my subjects, I feel the spirit of Cornwall - its changeable weather, its heritage and culture, its particular light - forms as integral a part of my palette as the coloured pigment in to which I plunge my brush and knives.

How I work?

I work mainly in oils, but allow my subject to influence my choice of materials, style and technique, so can often bring in a variety of other media, such as charcoal, ink, fabric, or anything that might fit my use, such as broken pottery, sand, plaster, etc. Environmentally aware, I find repurposing old materials a rewarding way to avoid pollution.

I divide my working time between painting outdoors and in the studio. Painting surrounded by nature brings inspiration, spontaneity and an energy to my work, and allows me to gain a feel of the true colours and mood of the ever-changing seasons and weather; my purpose-built studio is a relaxed and creative space that allows me the freedom to work on larger or more complex pieces, many commissions and portraits, whilst continuing to develop my own practice.
